Update: Trash Tax
Monday, November 21, 2016 … 6:31 PM
At this afternoon’s City Council regularly scheduled “work session” in preparation for tomorrow’s meeting, members agreed that Chairman Bradford will act at tomorrow’s meeting to remove the garbage tax from further debate.
However, that is in no way official or binding. Here is the rest of the story, in my opinion:
1. The end of this tax proposal occurs only when the public can tell and agrees it is over … not when the city administration or council say it is.
2. There may be only 5 members present tomorrow, and 3 of those have been proponents of the tax. That means if there is a “surprise” vote, the tax passes 3-2.
3. Those with the deepest experience and current knowledge in City Hall feel certain this tax will be back, after New Year’s, in some form. Chairman Bradford today opined that this is an issue of race, regardless that one member of his race is opposed to the tax.
So, all who can attend tomorrow to state their opposition should definitely stick with their plans!! Three o’clock tomorrow, Government Plaza, across McNeil Street from the YMCA …..
… this can certainly still go wrong. Opponents must be heard, regardless.
