Caddo Commission Damages Us Again… Because It Can
June 11, 2016 *
(This article first requires reading the underlying report from local blogger Pat Austin … here.) I thank Ms. Austin very much for attending and reporting this Caddo Commission meeting concerning the Confederate Monument on our courthouse grounds. I also thank the many Caddo citizens who stood to address the Commission and fellow attendees.
Actually, the first – the real – subject in all of this is the ugliness and corruption which IS the Caddo Parish Commission.
Should Caddoans finally decide someday to clean-up our place, the Caddo Parish Commission will be the first thing to go. The best way to do that is a change to city-parish government for Shreveport and Caddo, but getting rid of the Commission is the priority, regardless of the how it is done.
No place can save and restore itself when run by such a corrupt governmental entity.
Not surprisingly, Commissioner Ken Epperson takes point on this issue, allowing him to again display his epic and infamous hate and public intimidation. “Taking point” on anything at the Commission isn’t easy given (a) how corrupt it is, and (b) how many members reside and thrive dead at the heart of that corruption.
For those who do not know, Epperson and ex-Commissioner John Escude are key in the events which created the theft called the “Caddo Parish Employees Retirement System” (CPERS), along with other self-pay lawbreaking. As a way of extending their tenure on the Commission, these two used – i.e., got elected – friends of theirs to sit in “their” Commission chairs for one (four-year) term, then returned to continue another string of their own four-year terms.
Along with ex-Commissioner Stephanie Lynch and current member Matthew Linn, these Commissioners most strongly believe their time in local elective offices is both a gift to the rest of us – and I mean that, literally – and an opportunity to enrich themselves.
Along with a few other local officials, these well personify what has gone wrong with and for Caddo Parish.
* Since March 2014, I have written and online-published 48 articles about corruption within the Caddo Parish Commission. The articles written since January 2015 may be read on RealShreveport.com. Click first on “CPERS Timeline,” then begin reading the first article at the bottom of Page 2. Articles are chronologically arranged from there, forward.
