Week 3 High School Football Recap

Week 3 of high school football is now in the books. One of the biggest stories of the week was the game that did not happen between Trinity Christian (Dallas) and Evangel. Trinity cancelled claiming Evangel sent them a poor quality video of their loss at Allen (TX). While I am skeptical of this excuse, I am more disappointed for Evangel they did not get to play a big home game against Deion Sanders son. Evangel will now play only 8 games this season as they already have a bye week scheduled. Evangel opens District 1-5A play with a road game against a banged up Parkway squad on Friday night at 7pm.

Speaking of Parkway, their brutal luck in 2017 continued this weekend in bizarre fashion. They were blown out by Pulaski Academy (Ark) 62-21 on the road Friday night. On their trip back to Bossier, their bus ran out of gas on the highway! By the time the Panthers made it back to Bossier, it was 10:30AM Saturday morning! Parkway is now 1-2 on the season and hosts Evangel Friday.

For 2,5 quarters, Airline and Ruston was a thriller. Airline had an 18-15 lead midway through the 3rd quarter but Ruston dominated the final 18 minutes, winning 36-18. Ruston Defensive End Tahj Samuel had 4 sacks for the Bearcats and is one of the top players in North Louisiana. The loss moves Airline to 2-1 on the season. Airline opens District 1-5A play with a road game at Lee Hedges Stadium Friday night against Southwood.

Calvary fell to 0-3 with a 45-30 loss at an athletic Bastrop squad.  While the Cavs cannot be happy with this start, they still are poised for a big season in district and the playoffs with a high powered offense but they must improve on defense. Loyola moved to 2-1 on the season with a 27-14 win in the Bishop’s Cup over St. Fred’s in Monroe.

In other matchups in the area, Logansport, the defending 1A state champs, routed Bossier 48-21. Haynesville was blown out by Junction City (Ark) 48-20 and falls to a surprising 1-2. Benton continued their blistering start by routing Tioga 48-16. The Tigers have scored over 40 points in all 3 wins so far this season. Minden won a defensive battle at North Webster 13-6. North Desoto moves to 3-0 with a 21-12 win over Many, one of the top teams in 2A behind the running of Aubrey Scott. Byrd suffered their 1st loss of the season falling 22-9 at Sulphur and Green Oaks defeated BTW 28-14 in the “Soul Bowl”.
