Louisiana electoral voters cast ballots in Senate chamber

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s eight electoral voters are expected to stick with Donald Trump, who won the state overwhelmingly, as they cast their ballots for president.

The formal vote is scheduled for Monday in the state Senate chamber.

Requests to snub the Republican presidential-elect have poured into Louisiana’s electoral voters from around the country. But electors appear disinterested in abandoning Trump in a state where he got 58 percent of the vote in November.

The state’s electors were chosen by the Republican Party from each of its six congressional districts and for two at-large positions.

On Monday, secretary of State Tom Schedler will administer oaths of office to the electors, who will take individual verbal votes in a public meeting.
