Early voting off to a good start in Caddo Parish

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters is expecting to see the highest voter turnout yet for this election.

Early voting began Tuesday, and Registrar of Voters Ernie Roberson saw no shortage of voters at the office.

“We had 1,363 voters yesterday in person,” Roberson said. “This morning we had 301 as of about 10:30, which is about 150 an hour. That’s what we expect each day, and that would put us at a total of about 10,000 for early voting.”

Roberson said he does an unofficial count each day in the mid-morning and in the mid-afternoon. Another count is performed after voting closes, and the official totals are given the next morning.

Updates for voter turnout are available on Ernie Roberson’s Facebook page. He posts cumulative totals for both in-person votes and votes by mail, in addition to voter turnout statistics by demographic and by party affiliation.

In addition to Tuesday’s 1,363 in-person votes, Roberson said there were also 3,162 received by mail.

Early voting will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 1, but the office will be closed Sunday, Oct. 30. Hours for early voting are 8:30am-6:00pm.
