A PRESIDENT NAILS CADDO COMMISSION’S AWFUL STOCK-IN-TRADE

Wednesday, April 26, 2017 … 10:56 A.M.

When the Caddo Parish Commission is the subject, it is both easy and justifiable to use otherwise harsh descriptions. Their reckless abuse of citizens, especially taxpayers, is truly abominable … as I have been researching and documenting since 2013.

The ability of the Commission to lawfully and honorably govern is spiraling-down … as it wreaks public havoc at almost every turn.

Certainly no “stewards of the public trust,” most Commissioners are known Stewards of Me. The body displays an epic, heretofore unknown, disrespect for honest and honorable governing.

As to the Commission’s abusive taxation – one of its darkest arts – our descriptors are worn thin, but others from American history step-up nicely.

Here is a personal favorite … a dead-center labeling by anti-tax President Calvin Coolidge:

“Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery.”

Legalized robbery. Yes. That is precisely correct.

No tax on Saturday’s ballot is even close to being needed.

In its most recent Comprehensive Annual Financial Report on the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s public website, we find proof that Commission sits atop a mega-pile of our money …

… $165,429,379 in “Total Government Funds,” and

… $130,584,856 in cash, cash equivalents and short-term federal government investments.

On a per-taxpayer basis, that is $657.88 for each Caddo resident, much, much more stashed cash than comparable parish governing bodies without city/parish (consolidated) government:
— $547.44 in Bossier Parish,
— $487.40 in Rapides (Alexandria),
— $605.45 in Ouachita (Monroe / West Monroe).
Regardless, the Commission is now attempting robbery by asking taxpayers to raise and extend what we were originally told were 10-year taxes into 12-to-15 year taxes.

In total, the property taxes on Saturday’s ballot are 31-mills higher than when taxpayers originally set them … and do not sunset for another 2-5 years.

We should certainly kill them for good when they sunset, but that’s a long way off.

While the Commission floats in a huge pool of windfalls Haynesville Shale and the so-called “Obama Stimulus” money, they want more … and are lying to us as usual to get it.

None of this happens, of course, if we vote down this Commission nastiness on Saturday.

I thank the memory of President Coolidge for his epic aversion to unnecessary taxes, and for somehow knowing our Caddo Parish Commission so well.
