A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM ELLIOTT STONECIPHER
Sunday, August 19, 2018 … 10:02 A.M.
A few days ago, just after a notable development with one Shreveport mayoral candidate, a batch of emails began hitting my inboxes.
The documents appear to be Shreveport Police Department records concerning one of the mayoral candidates, going back to mid-year 2015.
These emails, in context, are unusual. They came from various local political players, only one of whom I consider a friend. The others are certainly not.
Some of these “official” SPD documents included a “Restricted” designation, but that did not prevent their release … to someone.
Necessarily included are the names of complainants in the reported events, people who likely never contemplated being thus exposed.
Of greatest importance, the person who obtained the documents is hiding her / his identity, and can certainly not be working in the public interest.
I am no supporter of the targeted candidate, as my writing on these subjects proves. That, however, is neither here nor there. What matters is that I did not act to obtain the documents, and the person who did does not want to be identified.
I want nothing to do with any such hit … no one need ever send me any such documents.
For the record – and that is precisely why I write – some of what is going on in this mayoral campaign is already far beyond even today’s Shreveport pale.
Never in my career have I encountered the kind of hate and deceit increasingly at issue, certainly involving some top local officials.
Based on long experience, what I see is evidence that some people are desperate – truly desperate – to raid the city’s coffers to enrich themselves … fast.
